L'héritage est un sujet sensible en matière artistique. Un artiste recherche avant tout la singularité, mais quand on est "le fils de..", que le nom est déjà connu, tout se joue sur la reconnaissance du prénom.
La famille Van Severen est représentée par une installation montée dans la cour du Grand-Hornu. L’architecte David Van Severen et son frère, Hannes, sculpteur et designer de meubles, ont réalisé ce " portrait de famille ".
Leur grand-père, Dan Van Severen, était un peintre abstrait géométrique. Leur père, Maarten Van Severen, était designer. La chaise de Maarten Van Severen renouait avec une simplicité radicale ; l’objet était proche de l’archétype de la chaise
