Résumé : |
HSBC Private Bank approached Violette Editions to create a book that demonstrates the bank's commitment to design, published on the occasion of the inaugural display at Design Miami 2009 of RockSplit and RockShelves by Arik Levy for The Connection Collection. From the book's preface:
'HSBC Private Bank is proud to announce the launch of The Connection Collection with two major new works created by Arik Levy. As objects that can be combined in infinite variety, RockSplit and RockShelves have emerged from this designer's own interpretation of what "connection" means to him in the context of his practice. They enter The Connection Collection as an extension of his iconic series of works based on Rock of 2002, which, along with his other important creations, have helped to establish Levy as one of the most versatile practitioners today.
Acknowledging the importance of passion, emotion and relational themes in his own work, Levy frequently remarks that "The world is about people, not tables and chairs." At HSBC Private Bank, we
too celebrate this view in our own daily emphasis on the personal connections that make possible the dreams of established and emerging talents in all spheres of life. The Connection Collection aims to recognise such works in the field of design. Arik Levy's RockSplit and RockShelves mark its beginning.'
Libby Sellers is a design historian, gallerist and former senior curator at the Design Museum, London. Working with some of the industry's most promising and progressive designers through her eponymous pop-up gallery, she is now established as a leading voice in contemporary design, lecturing and writing on the topic internationally. Sellers was nominated for the 2008 Paul Hamlyn Breakthrough Fund for cultural entrepreneurs and the Wallpaper* Courvoisier Design Awards in 2009.
Asaf Gottesman is an architect and the founder of Gottesman-Szmelcman architecture, an international practice with offices in Paris and Israel. As a multi-disciplinary practice, Gottesman-Szmelcman Architecture has developed an expertise in urban design, mixed-used and hospitality developments. It has won several international competition and works throughout Europe
as well as in Israel.
Arik Levy was born in Tel Aviv in 1963. He has exhibited at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Jerusalem Museum in Israel and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. |
